How do you cite a journal review of an album recording?
Answer
A review of a sound recording is very similar to any other review. APA gives the following general format for a review on pp. 334-335 of the Publication Manual, 7th ed.
Reviewer, A. A. (2020). Title of review [Review of the book Title of book, by A. A. Author]. Periodical title, xx, xxx-xxx.
So, for example:
Farley, C. J. (1997). Lost in space [Review of the CD OK Computer, by Radiohead]. Time 150(8), 75.
Purdue OWL provides the following general formula for MLA:
Review Author. "Title of Review (if there is one)." Review of Performance Title, by Author/Director/Artist. Title of Periodical, Day Month Year, page.
So:
Farley, Christopher John. “Lost in space.” Review of OK Computer, by Radiohead. Time, vol. 150, no. 8, Aug. 1997, p. 75.
