Q. By adding the dropdown menu on the main search bar, it's become impossible to press the return key to activate the query. Please consider a default of "everything" so that we can use the search quickly and without confusion.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the webpage! We're always interested in hearing from patrons about their experiences. The dropdown menu was designed to make the four search scopes easily visible. The cost, as you say, is the lack of a default option, which makes it hard to do a search quickly. We appreciate your thoughts and will continue to refine this feature.
In the meantime, you can do a fairly quick "Everything" search by using the keyboard:
- Enter your search terms.
- Press return to activate the dropdown menu.
- Press tab to choose "Everything."
- Press return to run the search.
It sounds complicated, but the "type-return-tab-return" is pretty fast once you get used to it. It's not a perfect answer—just sharing in case you find it useful.
